The Mother of All Day's
Not since 1999 has the final day of the season defined a campaign - but thats exactly whats on the menu this Mother's Day. The facts are simple, Manchester United must match Chelsea's result and their 17 extra goals will do the rest. Steve Bruce's Wigan Athletic are safe and so are Bolton Wanderers. Its Birmingham City and Reading that stare relegation in the face. Fulham, magnificent in recent weeks, govern their own destiny against a Portsmouth team with a glorios day in the sun to look forward to. Everton need a point at St. James Park to ensure European football next season. Plenty on the line this Fotball Sunday.
Saturday however begins at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace take on Bristol City in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final. In Italy Fiorentina still reeling from their UEFA Cup exit need the maximium return against Parma while in France its getting interesting. Bordeaux simply superb at the Stade Velodrome gained 2 points on Lyon this past weekend and with 2 matches remaining the Ligue 1 Championship is still on the line. At the other end spare a thought for PSG who came so close to 3 points last Saturday and unless St. Etienne are put to the sword it could be all over for Paul Le Guen's men.
Congratulations to Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, both of whom were promoted to the Premier league. We are delighted to bring you all the Footbal League playoff action during the mont of May. The FA Cup of course on May 17th and those two European Finals. New York travel to Hollywood for a Saturday night showdown with LA Galaxy while the Copa Libertadores and Clasura in Argentina are at the business end of the season. We look forward to the new season in Brazil and of course some summer fun in Switzerland and Austria this June but for now just enjoy this very special Mother's Day of Football.
Congratulations to FC Bayern securing their 21st Bundesliga Title on Sunday at Wolfsburg. Later that afternoon 10 men Real Madrid rallied to come from behind at Osasuna and were duly crowned La Liga Champions for the 31st time. The Party is set to begin at the Bernabeau on Wednesday when a certain FC Barcelona come calling.
Super Sunday in Italy could be a defining day. Internazionale welcome Siena while Roma also have home field advantage against Atalanta. Its the penultimate round and both sides are in action midweek in the Copa Italia.
The Hand of God
On June 22 1986 England played Argentina in the quarter final of the 1986 World Cup at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City in front of 114,000 football fans. What transpired, while not being one of the greatest games of all time, was one of the most memorable. If one game ever summed up the personality of a player it was this game. Maradona showed us all the aspects of his game - the diving, the cheating, the comedy, the breathtaking skill and control of course his absolute brilliance. Check out Diego falling head first into Terry Fenwick and his interlude with the corner flag. The two goals are probably some of the most recognizable sports images on this planet. Love him or hate him you cannot ignore him. As England legend Terry Butcher said on a visit to Nevada Smiths - "cheating bast@$d was the greatest player I ever played against"

New York Red Bulls New York Red Bull 1 - Toronto FC 1
There was no love lost in Toronto but the Red Bulls took a point from their Canadian rivals thanks to a Dave van den Bergh free kick. There is a long way to go and no real seperation between the teams in the East or West yet but picking up points in places like Toronto will go a long way to getting New York to the Playoffs.
Next Game: Thursday May 10th 10.30pm LA Galaxy v New York Red Bull
